This Week In Comic Books 1/22/14

After 3 or 4 weeks of next to nothing hitting my inbox at my LCS (local comic shop, for you n00bz), I’m finally hitting a strong release week with 8 books coming in for me.  We have a lot of interesting releases this week, and I should have been spending the last few weeks catching up on my reading, but unfortunately, I am still way behind.  I better catch up now, or I’ll be behind forever!  Anyhow, Darrell stole on of my early picks, so I better get to work!

Batman #27
Harley Quinn #2

Batman #27

In the final story of the second to last arc of Zero Year, Gordon and Batman try to put the pieces together from yesterday’s disaster.  Major plot points and mayhem are promised in book, which may have the best cover, to date, of any book released so far this year.

Harley Quinn #2

Cue creepy groans and 1980′s porn music, because my beloved Harley Quinn is back!!!  KIDS, COME MEET YOUR NEW MOMMY!  To make matters even sexier, Poison Ivy makes her first appearance in the series, and she and Harley try to save some kittens and puppies naked!  (*editor’s note: this may not be 100% accurate)

Pretty Deadlly #4
Chew #39

Pretty Deadly #4

There has been a whole lot of hullabaloo about the Pretty Deadly series lately, from it being named one of the best new series, to Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios being named best new creative team.  The art is breathtaking, and the story is amazing.  Try out this series, while it’s still in its infancy.

Chew #39

In Chew’s second to last issue of the “Family Recipies” story arc, John Layman is at his finest, bringing this amazing story to life.  Finally, Amelia is back at the keyboard, surely causing chaos and bringing the taste of food (and other things) to her reader’s mouths.  You know, if I had her talent, I’d only write stories about Harley Quinn’s………

Darrell’s Picks:

Deadly Class #1
All New Invaders #

Deadly Class #1

Just your average High School set back in 1987. Marcus hates the jocks and has a crush on a girl in his class. Pretty normal, except that this is the most deadly school in the world! Where families in crime send their kids to learn how to be assassins. This is a pretty interesting premise, and with that, more of my money goes to Image comics.

All-New Invaders #1

I never knew too much of the Invaders, and never have really read any before. Think I might have bought a couple issues from the 50cent boxes back in the day, from their 70′s run. Always thought it was an interesting team-up of Captain America, Human Torch, Namor, and Bucky the Winter Soldier. I have to say I am intrigued, and think I’ll pick this up.Bookmark the permalink.
